MARK CRAIG

Mark Craig has been fishing for as long as he can remember.

He grew up near the shores of the Potomac River in Northern Virginia, fishing the numerous tidal lakes, and marshes for largemouth and rock bass. As his travels expanded further from home, so did the variety of fish he pursued. Some of his notable adventures include redfish along the gulf coast, land locked salmon in Maine, cutthroat trout in Utah, steelhead in Washington, and brook trout in the Southern Appalachians.

Not satisfied with merely knowing how to fish, he began learning the history of fly fishing, how the rods were built, and then building them. He began by re-finishing old bamboo rods, but that only led to building graphite and fiberglass rods, which in turn led to building bamboo rods. Since then, he has built most of the rods he’s fished, as well as wooden landing nets. He ties the majority of his specialty leaders, as well as most of his favorite flies. 

In addition to his passion for fishing, Mark also enjoys photography, in particular, fly fishing photography.

Mark is an Orvis certified casting instructor, as well as a guide for some of the local rivers in North Georgia. He has guided kayak fishing trips along Georgia’s barrier islands, and Lake Fontana in GSMNP. He is a certified first responder, Search and Rescue technician (SAR Tech II), and BLS instructor.
